2. In class: We had about 10-15 minutes to finish Chapter 7 Processing (ISN 55). We then wrapped up our discussions about the early settlement of Ancient Egypt, Kush, and Canaan, and moved on to Chapter 9. Here, we will be learning about daily life in Ancient Egypt. We began with a preview activity (ISN 65). We also read the introduction for Chapter 9 together, and had some time to begin working on our Key Content Terms.

We also worked on applying our understanding of environmental factors and their impact on early settlement with the Chapter 7 Processing Activity. We will finish working on these tomorrow in class (you will have approximately 15 minutes).

-Class Spelling Bees will be held on Monday, 12/8/14. There will be a 5th grade bee and a 6th grade bee. They will be held in our language arts classroom during language arts. Two winners will be selected from the Fitz/Brown 5th graders, and two winners will be selected from the Fitz/Brown 6th graders. These students will go on to compete in the school-wide spelling bee later this school year. The list of words to study is available from Ms. Leach. Students are not required to study for the Class Spelling Bees, but it is very much encouraged.

Some students acted as landforms, while others role-played as the settlers arriving in the area. Together, we read section 7.4. Afterwards, we wrapped up the activity by completing the corresponding Reading Notes. ISN pages 52-54 should have been completed in class.

For each section, we spread students out across the room to model the geography of Ancient Egypt. Some students acted as landforms, while others role-played as the settlers arriving in the area. 2. In class: We began discussing characters that play parallel roles in different novels. We compared characters from Wonder to characters from other novels. We also worked on a short writing piece in which we compared a character from our SRB to a character from another novel and/or movie.
