Homeroom/Announcements

-Class Spelling Bees will be held on Monday, 12/8/14. There will be a 5th grade bee and a 6th grade bee. They will be held in our language arts classroom during language arts. Two winners will be selected from the Fitz/Brown 5th graders, and two winners will be selected from the Fitz/Brown 6th graders. These students will go on to compete in the school-wide spelling bee later this school year. The list of words to study is available from Ms. Leach. Students are not required to study for the Class Spelling Bees, but it is very much encouraged.

Language Arts
Bring a "just right" silent reading book to class every day. Also bring your Reader's and Writer's Notebooks and an appropriate writing utensil to class every day.

2. In class: Today we began working on an in-depth writing piece that is intended to wrap up our "Building Theories About Characters" unit. This will be done entirely in class today and tomorrow, and will directly relate to the mini-lesson, discussions, and practice that we've done over the past few weeks with building theories and supporting those theories with evidence.
3. Homework:
-Every Night: During your nightly 30 minutes of reading, continue to jot Theories, Evidence, and Signposts in your Reader's Notebook.
-Grammar #3 (Adjectives) due Wednesday, 12/10/14.
-December R&E due Tuesday, 12/16/14
-READ for 40 Book Challenge


Social Studies
1. Due today: Ch. 7 Key Content Terms (worksheet)
2. In class: We continued our exploration of the geography of Ancient Egypt. Together, we read sections 7.2 and 7.3. For each section, we spread students out across the room to model the geography of Ancient Egypt. Some students acted as landforms, while others role-played as the settlers arriving in the area. Afterwards, we wrapped up each activity by completing the corresponding Reading Notes. ISN pages 52-53 should have been completed in class. We will continue these activities tomorrow.
3. Homework:
-Unit 1 Test Reflection (half page handout with signature) DUE MONDAY, 12/8/14.
-Current Events/News Report due 11/17-12/12 (check the Wiki for your date).
