Next, create your own superhero based on any historical time period. STUDENT VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED: The BCS-Bees will be having yet another sale during Spring Conferences! This time we will be selling our candles, pins, magnets, hair-clips, lip balm, clay figurines, and cookbooks! We will also be passing out informational materials and spreading the word about saving the bees. In order to make this activity a success, we need students to volunteer at the sale table in the main hallway. If you are interested in signing up, please have your parent email Ms. Leach with the time slot you would like to work. The available times are: Wednesday 7-8 and Thursday 1-4 AND 5-8. Just one hour of your time would be a huge help! Thanks for continuing to help "Save the Bees!"

Apply this practice to your own Literary Essay by writing a rough draft of your Conclusion Paragraph in the rough draft packet following the guidelines we discussed (finish this for homework).

Special Announcement Regarding Birbery!

6th Graders:

The first Birbery bookclub will be held this coming Monday, February 2, during your recess period in the Media Center. Early that morning, the Newbery Award winner and honor books for 2015 will be announced. We will watch the recorded webcast of the announcement and learn what’s been chosen, then discuss! 2. In class: Literary Essay Unit - Reasoning. Partner Revision work on three paragraphs with Evidence and Elaboration that were due today. Follow Ms. Leach's steps to work together to edit/change these paragraphs as needed. Mini-lesson and Discussion on Reasoning. Use the mentor literary essay examples to see how authors include Reasoning to connect their evidence back to their claim. Begin working on the Reasoning sentences to add to the end of each of your body paragraphs.

2. In class: Literary Essay Unit - Elaborating on Evidence. Partner work on three pieces of evidence that were due today. Work together to edit/change pieces of evidence as needed. Class discussion on what it means to elaborate. Use the mentor literary essay examples to see how authors elaborate on evidence by providing specific details from the story. Explain the difference between paraphrasing and quoting. Begin working on your body paragraphs - start with the general idea for each piece of evidence and then elaborate using details from the story.
